Pastor Joe E. Edwards
Meet Pastor Joe E. Edwards, Senior Pastor

Pastor Joe E. Edwards is known throughout the denomination as a powerful preacher, sensitive to the Holy Spirit in bringing anointed messages from God. He has been the Pastor in Cartersville since 1987 during which time the church has grown at one of the fastest rates in history.

A native of Alabama, the Rev. Edwards pursued his studies at Lee College, and the Church of God School of Theology, Cleveland, Tennessee. A gifted writer, he has written articles for several different church publications – Evangel, The Pentecostal Minister, On Guard, and The Laymen’s Bulletin. His sermons are circulated throughout the United States and other countries.

Under the leadership of Pastor Edwards, in 1995 the Cartersville Church of God purchased 186 acres just off Interstate 75 in Cartersville. The complex is named "Liberty Square". Relocation of the worship center and educational facilities, Family Life Center, and Harvest House is complete. Future plans are to relocate Excel Christian Academy and build an additional childcare center. This new Christian community includes senior adult housing, a cemetery, recreational facilities, single family homes and much more.

Recognized as a person of vision and action, the Rev. Edwards has served as a member of the Church of God Executive Council. Chairman of the General Study Commission, a commission assigned the responsibility to study the organizational and operational structure of the denomination. He has served on state youth boards, evangelism boards, and state councils. He has organized several new churches and was the Evangelism and Home Missions Director for the state of Alabama.

Prior to coming to the Cartersville Church, the Reverend Edwards served as State Overseer of the Church of God in Northern Ohio. Known for his unique ability to present the gospel message with simplicity and to communicate effectively with persons from all walks of life, he has spoken at Prayer Conferences, interdenominational meetings, camp meetings, Church Growth Conferences, minister’s retreats and youth camps.

Pastor Edwards served four years as the pastor of the North Cleveland Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee. The North Cleveland Church is the oldest continuing Pentecostal church in the world. At the prestigious North Cleveland Church, Edwards ministered in three services on Sunday and led the church in sponsoring an aggressive ministry of discipleship, outreach, Bible teaching, and faith-building fellowship. He was active in community projects and taught a course in church administration at the Church of God School of Theology in Cleveland.

In May of 2002, Pastor Edwards was honored by the Cartersville Church of God congregation for his 15-year service as Senior Pastor. He was presented an honorary Doctor of Divinity from the National Bible Seminary in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Edwards has served for over four decades in the gospel ministry, and over twenty-five years as the Pastor of the Church at Liberty Square in Cartersville. He and his wife, Becky, have five children, and several grandchildren.
